Google Launches Ads For AI Overview Results

Google Ads

Google has launched its AI Overview ads for mobile users in the U.S. These ads will appear within AI-generated answers in search results, triggered when queries have commercial intent, such as product-related searches. The ads are integrated with existing campaigns, and advertisers don’t need to take extra steps to participate. However, Google will not provide segmented reporting for these ads, and advertisers can’t opt out of them. While this could offer more visibility, concerns exist about ROI due to ad placement below AI answers.

At the moment these ads will be placed below AI overviews. According to past reports they look very similar to existing product ads already being used in the results. Therefore I do not foresee immediate measurable impact of organic search traffic or visibility. However, as these ads continue to develop we may see more decreases in organic traffic and visibility as more of the above the fold content is pushed further down the page.
